2024 has been another amazing and rewarding year for Brumar Engineering! The year was filled with professional improvement, overcoming challenges for our clients, and getting on the golf green. Here’s a snapshot of what happened this year.

Professional Achievements: LEED Certifications

At the beginning of the year, George and two of our engineers in training, Santiago and Jonathan, embarked on obtaining their LEED credentials. They had to write one exam for the LEED Green Associate (GA) and another a couple of months later for the Accredited Professional (AP). It was a difficult feat, but all three passed and are now certified as LEED AP BD+C professionals. Great work, guys!

Brumar Engineering designs and completes numerous LEED projects each year, so having a deep understanding of this sustainable building certification is essential.

Welcoming a New Team Member: Omer Syed

We would also like to welcome a new engineer who joined our team in 2024, Omer Syed. Omer will be taking on the role of Project Lead, managing complex projects from start to finish. He brings over 20 years of mechanical consulting experience from well-known firms such as Walter Feedy.

He is approachable and easygoing yet detail-oriented and knowledgeable. So far, Omer has been an excellent addition to our team.

Brumar Takes on the Golf Green

On a lighter note, the whole Brumar team caught the golf bug this summer. It all started when several of us were invited to a golf game hosted by Govan Brown and GWL. That’s when we started hitting the driving range to practice, training under our “golf experts” from the CAD team.

We ended the season with a Brumar Golf Day at Markham Green, bringing the whole team together for some fun on the green.

Tackling Challenges: A Race Against Time

2024 was also an exciting year for taking on new challenges with our projects. One of our standout projects involved a client who fabricates race cars. They needed to be fully operational in a new space within just three months—a major challenge given the scope of their operation.

Alberto from our team provided critical guidance to spearhead the project. He sized the HVAC equipment early and advised the client to pre-purchase it to avoid long delivery times. By working closely with the client to ensure all design answers and requirements were met, Brumar played an essential role in keeping the project on track.

Brumar was also on-site regularly to catch mistakes early and prevent delays in construction. Thanks to the collective efforts of consultants, contractors, and project managers, the client achieved the near-impossible feat of being in production within the three-month time constraint. Hats off to everyone involved!

Pushing the Boundaries of Sustainability

This year, we had the opportunity to work on a groundbreaking project pushing the limits of sustainability. This fully electric, net carbon-zero project is still in development, but it challenged our team to think beyond the typical warehouse shell development with gas heating.

George has been leading this project, and we’re excited to see it unfold as a model for future sustainable developments.

Celebrating Industry Recognition

We’re also proud to share that one of our clients, Berkshire Axis, won the Industrial Development of the Year award at the Commercial Real Estate Development Association (NAIOP) awards for their Heartlake Development Business Park in Brampton, ON.

Berkshire was recognized for the speed of construction and the economic benefits the development brings to the city. Brumar Engineering was the mechanical consultant on record for all seven of these buildings. Congratulations to the Berkshire Axis and Cecchini Group team for making this happen!
